I've just handed in an assessment piece for my Science and Tech. class which tied in really well with the theory work of Teaching in the Digital Age, so here's me writing a blog post about it!
It's official the 4C's save lives! Maybe it's just me coming from a design background, but I can really relate to this method of teaching and I do believe it is the foundation of all learning, especially within this century. “” We are shaping students primarily to be problem solvers before anything else, this is not merely for a career but throughout their lives. “”

Back to this assessment piece which mainly involved me creating and justifying two videos for Tech. lessons, one each for junior and upper primary. Obviously when it comes to teaching technology it is easy to see the correlation between the material needed to be taught for tech. (the curriculum) and the inquiry teaching methods used to accomplish this. However, though we were informed about various approaches such as the 5 E’s- Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Examine, discovery learning and constructivism. The 4C’s although alluded to, were never mentioned or explained directly, where as I found without knowing this information I wouldn’t have had such a strong framework to base my ideas around. Before I continue, check out my submissions here:
So within this assessment, the 4C’s came into particular use on the second video, created for junior primary. I used an overall of PBL- Problem Based Learning and used the 4C’s to establish each step in the project. A further explanation can be accessed here, where I give a rationale to the accompanying video.
The technology involved is also something I wanted to commented on, as this class again enhanced my education in the sense that it wasn’t so daunting for me to try something new, to research what was available rather than just to stick with what I know and what is easiest for me. The new website programs I used, worth mentioning were

These were animation video tools, which I found very simple, effective and most importantly, FREE! I usually like to go ahead and make things difficult for myself (I had grand plans to start the animation piece in After Effects!) yet, both of these programs proved to that although on a simpler platform then that of professional program they can be just as effective when used correctly, I think SMAR might be at work here!
Essentially I just wanted to state that this method of research and collaboration, building bricks of process rather than memorisation of knowledge is such a win for me! And combined with the correct use of technology the possibilities are truly endless, it’s what modern society is being built on, and it is nothing less then vital that we educate out students towards it.
